Question: “If I receive the Greek residency, can I submit a family reunification application for my husband, who is currently in Aleppo, or he has to go to Turkey and submit his application from there?” [Syrian national]
Answer: People granted refugee status in Greece have the right to family reunification in Greece with family members who are currently located in another non-EU country.
People under subsidiary protection do not have the right to apply for bringing their family members to Greece.
As a recognized refugee in Greece you are able to apply to be reunited with your adult spouse and minor children and with adult unmarried children with serious health problems.
You can apply in the Asylum Service or at the nearest Regional Asylum Office.
If the application is submitted within three months from the notification of the decision of international protection, you will not need to submit documentation, such as income declaration or a house contract.
You will also need to provide travel documents and birth certificates of the family members you want to be reunited with.
However, family reunification with family members currently located in another non-EU country is in practice a difficult and lengthy process.
