The European Asylum Support Office, the EU agency responsible for the EU relocation program, has updated the list of nationalities eligible for relocation.
Iraqis are no longer on the list of eligible nationalities, according to the official EASO website.
An EASO spokesperson confirmed to News That Moves that Iraqis are no longer eligible.
According to Eurostat data, the positive recognition of asylum application from Iraqi citizens at EU level fall below the 75 percent threshold required to be part of the relocation programme.
However, Iraqis in Greece who are already pre-registered and have applied to be relocated will be still processed, EASO confirmed to News That Moves.
At the moment it is still not clear if the new rules regarding Iraqis may be interpreted in a broader way in Greece, to continue to give access to the relocation programme to Iraqis who are since months in Greece and have not yet pre-registered.
It is expected that in the coming days, more information about confirmation about the new rules will be available. Check News That Moves for updates.
