From Novinite: Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Ognyan Gerdzhikov has announced that security along the 240-kilometer border with Turkey will be increased immediately.
The move is believed to be because of the latest tensions between Turkey and the EU and fears that the EU-Turkey deal will collapse.
The boost in border security comes even though the number of migrants arriving in Bulgaria has decreased dramatically since last year.
Bulgarian authorities also said that thousands migrants and refugees have left Bulgarian reception centres over the past six months as they try to reach Serbia and then onward to western Europe.
However, Bulgarian political analysts say the reinstatement of the Dublin Regulation this week, which allows asylum seekers to be sent back to the country where they first entered the EU, could drive “the situation out of control” in Bulgaria.
